About this deal

For most people the classic Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old whisky is the best place to start. The heavy sulphurous new make has been tamed by long ageing to produce something gloriously smooth and honeyed, with just a little smoke and an underlying meatiness.

Dalwhinnie 15 Details

Dalwhinnie whisky distillery, sitting between the Grampian and Monadhliath mountain ranges of Inverness-shire is Scotland’s highest working distillery at 327m or 1073 ft above sea level. That means it gets really cold up there. It has the lowest average temperature in the UK at around 6°C and the distillery often gets cut off during the winter. That cold weather has a distinct effect on the whisky’s character, as we shall see. Though it is close to Speyside, Dalwhinnie is classed as a Highland distillery. Shop Dalwhinnie’s collection below for a smooth but complex marriage of the two powerhouses of whisky identities. The whiskey was very well received in the test by spirituosen-journal.de. It already convinces with its harmonious smell of sweet and subtly smoky essences. This is crowned by slightly woody, spicy nuances and a mild aftertaste. Due to the balanced note, the tester recommends enjoying the 15-year-old Dalwhinnie neat and not with ice cubes or even soft drinks. In addition to the taste, the production method of the drink, which is still done in a traditional way, is also convincing. The bulbous bottle scores with its recognition value, but the opening could be a little narrower. The price-performance ratio, on the other hand, collects plus points again. Fruity Notes Reminiscent of Honey A stunning Dalwhinnie from Diageo's Special Releases, this was launched in 2012. It was distilled in 1987 before a 25 year maturation. A 1966 vintage from the Dalwhinnie distillery, this cask strength 36 year old was limited to a release of just 1,500 bottles. One of the oldest single malts one can find from the Dalwhinnie distillery.
